#whywerun - Teal Gove
Teal has just completed her 10k run for clean water in Ethiopia and we were lucky enough to hear more about that and her other reasons as to WHY she runs.
My 'why' for running depends on the day. Sometimes it’s emotional, sometimes it’s physical, and sometimes it’s the last thing I want to do. Regardless of the reason, my run always seems to give me what I need when I need it. Here are just a few of the reasons why I run:
Most importantly, I Run for Water. This year, I am running two marathons to raise funds for a clean water well in Ethiopia. This well will not only drastically improve the health of the Sheni Kondala community, but it will allow girls to stay in school rather than spending 5 to 6 hours collecting water every day. Clean water is so much more than clean water. It is health, safety, opportunity, education, prosperity, empowerment, and more.
To run it out - when I’m stressed or upset, usually an endorphin rush from pushing the pace and getting my heart pumping is the best medicine.
To meditate - I always struggle with clearing my head and silencing my thoughts but every once in awhile I’ll have a run where I’m able to completely zone out and shut things off.
To organize - during crazy weeks, my runs are the way that I plan my schedule for the day and figure out the best plan of attack for my to-do list.
I’m sure there are a lot of us who can relate to these reasons! Jump over to her instagram page @tealruns to follow along as she continues to race and raise money for clean water!
