#whywerunwednesday with a difference.

Are you a lover of ultra-marathons? Or perhaps rather complete a challenge as a team? Well we may have something for you! We are fortunate enough to be involved with the Australia’s CEO Challenge, Darkness To Daylight Event this year. Initially beginning in 2015, this event continues to grow and raise crucial awareness towards domestic and family violence.  Held in Brisbane, this May 29-30, they are offering a 110km (solo or team), 10km, 3km or Online (Virtual Run).

I know we all run for different reasons, some for the simple love of getting outdoors, some for PB’s and some for mental clarity. That’s why we are excited to be involved with this project. You or the person next door knows someone affected by these issues, and we want to use our love for running to help raise awareness for this important issue in today’s society. 

When we launched our first two hats, we wanted these to be a representation of a number of things. You know the saying, if you’re wearing a particular hat, you are performing that particular role at the time, etc. We all wear many ‘hats’ throughout our lives and in this case we want our hats to be a symbol. A symbol for those affected by DFV both directly and indirectly, a symbol for those working in the front-line housing those in need, and a symbol for everyone out there running for a cause.   

We’d love to be joined by our community, whether during the event or online, by running one of the available distances. The distance of 110km (solo or as a team) represents the 110 lives lost to domestic and family violence in 2015. Money raised will support ACEOC to continue their work in raising awareness of DFV in the workplace and supporting services at various housing locations, including children who have had to flee their home and escape violence.
