I’ve always been partial to the morning run, but more along the lines of 7AM. To me, it’s far less complicated. It’s not dictated by what I’ve eaten throughout the day or by how much time I’ve already spent on my feet. It’s a great way to start the day to get ready for what comes next. And of course, who doesn’t love coffee and a second breakfast?

When I started a new job last Fall, my schedule was thrown for a loop. I tried splitting my runs and running doubles and that wore our fast. I tried running at a different park because it was a little closer and that didn’t work either. Finally, I decided I need to go back to my usual spot and change up my morning routine. After a couple of weeks of this, I felt like my old running self again. Plus, I could not believe the sky! I wake up at 5AM so that I can start my run by 6AM. After I finish, I have a very tight window to shower and get to work. But during that run, everything is as it should be.

This is what inspired THE SUNRISE RUN.

THE SUNRISE RUN 🌅

It's cold, I know. You're still wrapped up trying to chase the dream you just had. But you've got to get up. You get to wake up.

As soon as your feet hit the floor, you go onto autopilot. PJs come off, run gear goes on. You eat a banana, maybe some oatmeal, and drink it down with some pre-run hydration. A quick gear check and you're off.

The first mile is the coldest and hardest. Guided by streetlights, you tune out the thoughts and tune into the run. One mile, and then another. The rhythm becomes familiar again. Before you know it, the streetlights start to flicker off as first light starts to peak thru. One mile, and then another. The streets start to come alive as the sky begins to dance. Rich hues of orange, purple, yellow, & everything in between. And you, in your privilege & power & infinite possibility, get to witness it all. Do you ask questions yet to be answered? Can you fully realize this moment? Where does your mind go?

One mile, and then another. Some days are easier than others but if you're willing to greet the day, it will always talk back. This is the way of the sunrise run.
