#whywerun - Tobias Weber-Andersen & Green Kayak
Tobias Weber-Andersen - Founder of Green Kayak
When Tobias reached out to us at Fractel about his love for running and work with Green Kayak we instantly wanted to know more. As a fellow partner of the 1% For The Planet movement, our core values clearly aligned and we felt compelled to share his story...
"GreenKayak is an environmental NGO founded in Denmark. Tobias Weber-Andersen and Oke Carstensen are full time busy working on this different approach to the environmental challenge the oceans are suffering under. The oceans and local waterways are filled up with plastics, big and tiny pieces of plastics that are threatening the animals living in and at the water. Tobias and Oke are aiming to give as many people as possible the chance to engage with the fight against pollution, by offering free trips in GreenKayaks in return for collecting trash from the water and sharing your experiences on social media with #greenkayak.
We believe that giving people a connection to nature is the way to create lasting change.
Since 2017, more than 25 thousand volunteers have paddled GreenKayaks in the harbours, rivers and lakes of 5 countries across Europe, and collected more than 42 tons of trash.
We also have a mobile fleet of 10 GreenKayaks that we use to do activations and events with school kids and youth groups. We share our knowledge on grassroots engagement with institutions like the European Environmental Agency. And we’re currently working on building a global network of GreenKayaks.
We are on a mission to cultivate volunteers to collectively act against environmental pollution by paddling for the oceans.
Bonus info. The founder Tobias is a dedicated runner and triathlete and is loving the comfy caps from Fractel.
"I'm wearing the caps when I'm in the GreenKayak fishing up plastic, when I'm in business meetings and of course while running in nature"."
