#whywerun - Karin Traeger

What a human being Karin is! Here is what Karin ( @karanth87 ) had to say when we asked her, 'why you run'...

“When I was a kid, I hated running so much! My school used running around the track as a punishment, so the association with going for a run was always a negative one.”

Skip ahead a few years to her mid-twenties, Karin returned to running.

“After a while I realized my stuff was the long distance. I started getting into trail running as well, and I found all these amazing places I could just go and explore. As I was living in Santiago de Chile, the mountains were my playground! I ran in volcanoes, ancient forests across Chile, explored mountains and came across some of the people that became my inspo in the trail running world. Three years ago I moved to Australia, and I have to say that running has allowed me to find myself and create an incredible network and kind of a running family :) In a way to give back too, I started to guide for Achilles Melbourne, helping vision impaired runners to get out there and achieve their goals too.

I completed my first ultra last year at the surf coast century and now I’m running my first 100km next week at @ultratrailaustralia :) and I can’t believe how time flies!
This has been an incredible journey, where I became stronger, more resilient as a runner and human being. And as part of my yearly challenge, I’m running for WWF Australia, fundraising for wildlife protection and as a plant based athlete for PETA”

What an epic journey Karin! We wish you all the best for your first 100k and can’t wait to see you cross the finish line. You can follow Karin at @karanth87 & @theplasticrunner . #whywerun #fractelrunning
