Q&A with Jay Revan

What / where was the event you recently completed?

The event was the TRIBE x Maverick Race 52KM ultra trail and was out in the Surrey hills, UK.

Did you face any major highs or lows throughout the ultra?

- Across the first 26KM I felt great, my legs felt strong and I was moving really well. It was the second half of the race that I really started to feel it. I took a pretty nasty fall at around the 35KM which really took the wind out of my sails and slowed me right down. I hit a real low around the 44KM mark as the elevation was just so intense, there was very little flat ground towards the back end of the course and I had to dig really deep to get over the line. All in all though i had an amazing time and the experience is one I’ll never forget. I will definitely be back for more trail in the future.

Did you do any specific training for the ultra-marathon?

- As this was my first trail ultra I really didn’t know what to expect going into the race so my preparation was mainly focussed around strengthening my knees and hips as my cardio and conditioning is generally pretty good all year round. I think the one thing I would do differently next time is make sure I got more hill work and actual trail runs in pre race.

What's next on the race calendar for you?

My focus now switches back to road racing for the London Marathon on 2nd October. This will be the first time running London so I can’t wait. I’ll be hoping for anything between 3:10 and 3:20 on the day so for the next 4 weeks I’ll have my head down in the gym and on the track to make sure I’m in the best shape possible.
