#whywerun - Damien Durham

Damien ( @damien.durham  ), like many others, is running for a cause this July at the Gold Coast Marathon. Having chatted with him, it’s obvious he has plenty of reasons to get through the upcoming 42.2km..

“My name is Damien Durham, and I am a 43-year-old triathlete from Brisbane, Australia. I took up triathlon 4 years ago after rehabilitating from my third ACL reconstruction. Three and a half years ago, I had the absolute privilege of meeting an amazing man; the father of my partner at the time, Amanda.

A little over 2 years ago, he was diagnosed with a Grade 4 GBM - an extremely aggressive primary brain tumour. He underwent surgery, radiation treatment and chemotherapy, but it wasn’t enough and he passed away in November 2017. Amanda decided that she would like to help raise awareness of brain cancer, as well as fundraise for research in the hope that we will one day find a cure. We thought that a great way to do this would be to participate in the 2018 Gold Coast Marathon. Her dad was a fighter and completing a marathon would be a fitting way to show the courage and determination that he showed throughout the time he battled this horrible disease.”

We really appreciate you sharing your story Damien and wish you all the best for your upcoming events!! You can support Damien’s great cause by hitting the link in his bio @damien.durham#whywerun #fractelrunning
